I am the flute and theory teacher at Music World East Malvern and Point Cook.
Described as “electric” (The New York Times) and “fresh and
inspirational” (The Adelaidean), flutist Anouvong Liensavanh has
collaborated with members of the New York Philharmonic, Orpheus Chamber
Orchestra, Tokyo String Quartet and faculty from the Juilliard School
and the Yale School of Music. Anouvong has performed in venues including
Carnegie Hall, The Lincoln Center, Le Poisson Rouge, Hamer Hall and
Melbourne Town Hall, and has performed with the Australian Youth
Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Yale Philharmonia, Yale Schola
Cantorum and New Music New Haven. In 2011, Anouvong was awarded a
fellowship by the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, where he was a
featured artist in the New Yorker magazine.
A passionate advocate of music education, Anouvong served as an
Undergraduate Lecturer in Flute and a Chamber Music Coach at Yale
University, Guest Lecturer at Elder Conservatorium, University of
Adelaide, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music as well as a Teaching Artist
in the Yale Music in Schools’ community engagement program. He has
given masterclasses at many educational institutions including the Royal
College of Music (London), Royal Academy of Music (London), San
Francisco Conservatory and the Frost School of Music at the University
of Miami. His students have gained entry to Ivy League schools including
Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Columbia Universities and have won
orchestral positions in professional orchestras throughout the United
States.
Anouvong holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from SUNY Stony Brook
under the direction of Carol Wincenc. As a recipient of the Yale School
of Music Irving S. Gilmore Fellowship and Scholarship, he holds a Master
of Music Degree from Yale University, having studied with Ransom Wilson.
He completed a Bachelor of Music degree with 1st Class Honours in 2008
at the Elder Conservatorium, University of Adelaide with Associate
Professor Elizabeth Koch OAM, and received numerous awards throughout
his study including an Elder Conservatorium Entrance Scholarship, the
Victor Edgelow Memorial Scholarship, the May Gepp Pont Scholarship, the
Honours Priority Scholarship and the EMR Traveling Scholarship. Anouvong
was also the recipient of the 2009 Helpmann Academy Adelaide Bendigo
Bank Award for the most outstanding arts graduate in South Australia.
